Free Leonard Peltier
The government under pretext of security and progress, liberated us from our land, resources, culture, dignity and future. They violated every treaty they ever made with us. I use the word “liberated” loosely and sarcastically, in the same vein that I view the use of the words “collateral damage” when they kill innocent men, women and children. They describe people defending their homelands as terrorists, savages and hostiles . . . My words reach out to the non-Indian: Look now before it is too late—see what is being done to others in your name and see what destruction you sanction when you say nothing. --Leonard Peltier, Annual Message January 2004 (Leonard Peltier is now serving 31st year as an internationally recognized Political Prisoner of the United States Government)

Miss Universe Visits Guantanamo: 'A Loooot Of Fun!'

Miss Universe Visits Guantanamo: 'A Loooot Of Fun!'

The current 'Miss Universe' Dayana Mendoza (formerly Miss Venezuela) and 'Miss America' Crystal Stewart visited US troops stationed in Guantanamo Bay on March 20th, the New York Times reports. Here's Mendoza's account of the visit from her pageant blog last Friday. She says the trip "was a loooot of fun!"

This week, Guantánamo!!! It was an incredible experience...All the guys from the Army were amazing with us. We visited the Detainees camps and we saw the jails, where they shower, how the recreate themselves with movies, classes of art, books. It was very interesting. We took a ride with the Marines around the land to see the division of Gitmo and Cuba while they were informed us with a little bit of history.

The water in Guantánamo Bay is soooo beautiful! It was unbelievable, we were able to enjoy it for at least an hour. We went to the glass beach, and realized the name of it comes from the little pieces of broken glass from hundred of years ago. It is pretty to see all the colors shining with the sun. That day we met a beautiful lady named Rebeca who does wonders with the glasses from the beach. She creates jewelry with it and of course I bought a necklace from her that will remind me of Guantánamo Bay :)

I didn't want to leave, it was such a relaxing place, so calm and beautiful.

American Task Force for Lebanon--Do you know Abbas Ali Awale?--Double StandMeanwhile lecturing and criticzing other nations for THEIR "immoral" behaviours etc etc --ards--Help in the removal of the millions of Cluster Bombs Dropped by Israel in 2006

I find this bitterly ironic that the US Satate Dept is giving matching 2 for one grants--for the clean up of the cluster bombs--as the US against its own laws supplied Israel and then resupplied during the brutal attacks of Israel's on Lebanon in 2006--

The USA continues to be one of the very few countries not to sign a ban on the use of cluster bombs.

Just think--if they were opposed to their use, the USA would not be shelling out precious dollars for the cleanups around the wrold, let alone the massive, deadly one in Lebanon, which constitutes a War Crime as the targets were primarily civilians.

However, both the USA and Israel have demonstarted time and again that International Law and Human Rights are concerns for other nations, not themselves.

And at the same time, both the USA and Israel never cease proclaiming their "morality" as opposed to the criminality of every other nation--

Twelve year-old Abbas Ali Awale had to undergo three operations after picking up an unexploded cluster bomblet.
Donate now!Dear David,

Twelve year-old Abbas Ali Awale (pictured above) was walking with his younger brother Hussein when an unexploded Israeli cluster munition detonated. While Hussein suffered only minor injuries, Abbas required three operations before he could be transferred out of the intensive care unit at Jabel Amel Hospital. Since August 2006 there have been 42 fatalities and 287 injuries from unexploded ordnance in Lebanon. It is unacceptable that Lebanese civilians continue to be killed and maimed by unexploded cluster munitions more than three years after the war with Israel ended.
Because of funding cuts by world donors, munitions-clearing teams in Lebanon may have to stop their vital work well before their job is done. In fact, 14 million square meters of contaminated area in Lebanon remains to be cleared.
Due to this funding crisis, ATFL launched a campaign to raise $100,000 for the Mines Advisory Group (MAG), the largest international mine and unexploded ordnance (UXO) clearance organization in Lebanon. When we reached the halfway mark, we presented MAG America with a check so that their work could continue without interruption. Thanks to a 2-for-1 matching grant by the U.S. State Department, our donation of $50,000 turned into $150,000 to clear cluster munitions in Lebanon (see below). Thank you!
ATFL and the U.S. State Department have donated $150,000 to help clear cluster munitions in Lebanon.

We still need your help.

Many more people will be maimed or killed unless these munitions are removed and destroyed by trained deminers. Every dollar that you donate to ATFL for this project will become three dollars that goes directly to saving innocent lives. To make a cluster munitions-free Lebanon a reality, we need your support now so that the clearing operations can continue. Could you donate $35, $65, or $100 today to help remove cluster munitions from Lebanon?
Please click here to donate as generously as you can and help us clear all cluster munitions from Lebanon.

Centro Abierto 09, conceived and produced jointly by Alta Tecnología Andina – ATA, Fundación Telefónica and Museo de Arte de Lima – MALI, seeks to promote art in public spaces in historic downtown Lima, a bustling city of over 8 million inhabitants.

This year the call for projects, the first of a five-year series, centers on eight locations in the surroundings of Lima's imposing Plaza San Martín.

The four projects, chosen by the selection committee among more than 170 proposals submitted from over 11 countries in Latin America, will be presented between October 23 and November 1, during the city's celebration of "La Gran Semana de Lima".

Orden Público (Public order) by Cuban artist James Bonachea, who intervenes the site of Democracy Park by installing red, blue and yellow emergency lights in the park's streetlighting system.

La foto salió movida (Photo blurred) by Peruvian artist Sandra Nakamura, who covers the facade of historic Teatro Colón with the fragmented image of the inside of the theater, as if the facade had been removed.

Identidad (Identity) by Argentinian artist Fabián Nonino, who develops an interactive installation on the façade of the building of the Peruvian Telephone Company. The public will send photos from their cell phones and see how the image is reshaped through thousands of emblematic national images (which take the place of pixels), and is projected in real time onto the façade.

Yo y San Martín (Me and San Martín) by Chilean artist Francisca Sánchez, who constructs a platform surrounding the monument to Independence hero José de San Martín, levelling the public's relation to the hero.
