Free Leonard Peltier

Free Leonard Peltier
The government under pretext of security and progress, liberated us from our land, resources, culture, dignity and future. They violated every treaty they ever made with us. I use the word “liberated” loosely and sarcastically, in the same vein that I view the use of the words “collateral damage” when they kill innocent men, women and children. They describe people defending their homelands as terrorists, savages and hostiles . . . My words reach out to the non-Indian: Look now before it is too late—see what is being done to others in your name and see what destruction you sanction when you say nothing. --Leonard Peltier, Annual Message January 2004 (Leonard Peltier is now serving 31st year as an internationally recognized Political Prisoner of the United States Government)

Miss Universe Visits Guantanamo: 'A Loooot Of Fun!'

Miss Universe Visits Guantanamo: 'A Loooot Of Fun!'

The current 'Miss Universe' Dayana Mendoza (formerly Miss Venezuela) and 'Miss America' Crystal Stewart visited US troops stationed in Guantanamo Bay on March 20th, the New York Times reports. Here's Mendoza's account of the visit from her pageant blog last Friday. She says the trip "was a loooot of fun!"

This week, Guantánamo!!! It was an incredible experience...All the guys from the Army were amazing with us. We visited the Detainees camps and we saw the jails, where they shower, how the recreate themselves with movies, classes of art, books. It was very interesting. We took a ride with the Marines around the land to see the division of Gitmo and Cuba while they were informed us with a little bit of history.

The water in Guantánamo Bay is soooo beautiful! It was unbelievable, we were able to enjoy it for at least an hour. We went to the glass beach, and realized the name of it comes from the little pieces of broken glass from hundred of years ago. It is pretty to see all the colors shining with the sun. That day we met a beautiful lady named Rebeca who does wonders with the glasses from the beach. She creates jewelry with it and of course I bought a necklace from her that will remind me of Guantánamo Bay :)

I didn't want to leave, it was such a relaxing place, so calm and beautiful.

Take Action: Call Congress, End the Siege of the Gaza Strip!

Support the Goldstone Report - Call Congress!

Dear david,

A month ago, we put out a call for two weeks of action to end U.S. support for the siege of the occupied Palestinian Gaza Strip and for Israel's apartheid wall in the occupied Palestinian West Bank and East Jerusalem and you've responded!  We already have ten events planned across the country and even more ways for you to get involved wherever you are.

Tell your Representative "Vote No on H.Res.867"

Take Action in the media to end the siege of the Gaza Strip

It looks like Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen's H.Res.867, which condemns the Goldstone Report for its findings of war crimes committed before, during, and after Israel's "Operation Cast Lead" assault on the Gaza Strip, will be voted on tomorrow, Tuesday, November 3rd.  Over 2,000 of our supporters have already taken action by emailing their Representatives, asking them not to vote for this atrocious resolution.  Join them by clicking here to send a message to your Representative.  Find out more ways you can stop H.Res.867 and end Israel's illegal siege of the Gaza Strip below.

 Tuesday, November 3rd: Call Congress

Join our national call in day, tomorrow November 3rd.  The House will likely be voting on H.Res.867 TOMORROW, so we need to get as many calls in as possible.  Calling Congress is as easy as 1-2-3!  First, find out who your Representative is here.  Then, call the Capitol Switchboard at (202)224-3121 and ask to be connected with your Representative.  Finally, use our talking points on H.Res.867 to tell your Representative why s/he should "vote no on H.Res.867."

Thursday, November 5th: Take action in the media

One year ago, the Israeli military raided the northern Gaza Strip, ending a four month cease-fire.  Remind the media that Israel broke the cease-fire, instigated "Operation Cast Lead" the following month, and that its ongoing siege of the Gaza Strip is illegal and must end.  Use our media action tools to write a letter to the editor or op-ed about H.Res. 867 or the siege of the Gaza Strip.  Be the media!  Use our talking points and stories about people going on the Gaza Freedom March to write a blog entry or comment about Israel's illegal siege of the Gaza Strip.  Use our toolkit to publicize local events to end the siege of the Gaza Strip in the media.  Follow the US Campaign on Twitter or become our fan on Facebook to participate in "new media" events to educate and activate our online communities around ending the siege of the Gaza Strip.

Organize local events to end the siege of the Gaza Strip and bring down Israel's apartheid wall.

Use our list of films about the siege of Gaza and the Apartheid Wall in the West Bank to organize a film screening in your community.  Our list of speakers will help you plan a teach-in or panel discussion.  Or use our resources to plan a local vigil.  Remember to promote the Gaza Freedom March at your event.  The Gaza Freedom March will be a convergence of human rights advocates in the Gaza Strip December 27th-January 2nd.  Finally, let others know about your event by clicking here to post it on our website.

Don't forget that next Monday kicks off the 7th annual week of action against Israel's apartheid wall. November 9th is the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin wall and a media day of action to bring down Israel's apartheid wall.  Click here for a host of tools to help make Israel's apartheid wall more visible in the media on this important anniversary.

Stand up for international law and human rights this November by calling for accountability during the November 2-8th week of action to end the siege of the Gaza Strip and demanding that Israel dismantle its apartheid wall, which stretches three times the length of the Berlin Wall and has been ruled illegal by the International Court of Justice during, the November 9-15th week of action against the apartheid wall.
