Members of Congress are outrageously pushing a resolution to wreck the UN fact-finding mission which found evidence of war crimes on both sides during the Gaza war earlier this year -- they'll vote on it this afternoon!
Based on international law, the Goldstone Report issued by the UN mission first recommends that both sides should hold independent, credible investigations to ensure that justice is done.
Obama, our allies in Europe, almost everyone wants basic accountability for war crimes -- starting with national investigations on both sides. Under pressure, Israeli cabinet members and Palestinian leaders are themselves considering such inquiries. By endorsing House Resolution 867, Congress would be uncritically taking sides -- seeking to tie the President's hands, and wreck the UN process and all chance of truth and justice.
Call the Congressional switchboard now on (202) 224-3121 and ask for your House Representative's office! (The vote is scheduled for Tuesday afternoon -- but if you get this message afterwards, it's still important to call and express your views.)
Here are some suggested points to make:
1. Say that Resolution 867 on the UN's Gaza war crimes report is flawed, and urge your representative not to support it
2. Urge your representative to support the President's position that Israel and the Palestinians must hold credible and independent investigations to consider evidence of war crimes in Gaza
3. Say that the Resolution risks undermining the process of international justice which are so important for the US and the world on wider international human rights issues such as Darfur, Bosnia, Burma and Rwanda.
If you want more background, check out some of the links below -- and after making your call to your House Rep on (202) 224-3121, please share how it went at this link:

During the war hundreds of children died in Israeli attacks, while Palestinian rockets aimed indiscriminately at Israeli towns killed 3 innocent civilians. Evidence of war crimes such as that found by the UN cannot be ignored -- truth and justice are essential to lay the foundations for a lasting peace, and to deter violence in future.
With hope and determination,
