The government under pretext of security and progress, liberated us from our land, resources, culture, dignity and future. They violated every treaty they ever made with us. I use the word “liberated” loosely and sarcastically, in the same vein that I view the use of the words “collateral damage” when they kill innocent men, women and children. They describe people defending their homelands as terrorists, savages and hostiles . . . My words reach out to the non-Indian: Look now before it is too late—see what is being done to others in your name and see what destruction you sanction when you say nothing. --Leonard Peltier, Annual Message January 2004 (Leonard Peltier is now serving 31st year as an internationally recognized Political Prisoner of the United States Government)

Miss Universe Visits Guantanamo: 'A Loooot Of Fun!'

Miss Universe Visits Guantanamo: 'A Loooot Of Fun!'

The current 'Miss Universe' Dayana Mendoza (formerly Miss Venezuela) and 'Miss America' Crystal Stewart visited US troops stationed in Guantanamo Bay on March 20th, the New York Times reports. Here's Mendoza's account of the visit from her pageant blog last Friday. She says the trip "was a loooot of fun!"

This week, Guantánamo!!! It was an incredible experience...All the guys from the Army were amazing with us. We visited the Detainees camps and we saw the jails, where they shower, how the recreate themselves with movies, classes of art, books. It was very interesting. We took a ride with the Marines around the land to see the division of Gitmo and Cuba while they were informed us with a little bit of history.

The water in Guantánamo Bay is soooo beautiful! It was unbelievable, we were able to enjoy it for at least an hour. We went to the glass beach, and realized the name of it comes from the little pieces of broken glass from hundred of years ago. It is pretty to see all the colors shining with the sun. That day we met a beautiful lady named Rebeca who does wonders with the glasses from the beach. She creates jewelry with it and of course I bought a necklace from her that will remind me of Guantánamo Bay :)

I didn't want to leave, it was such a relaxing place, so calm and beautiful.

National Security Agency Releases History of Cold War Intelligence Activities

Soviet Strategic Forces Went on Alert Three Times during September-October 1962 Because of Apprehension over Cuban Situation

For more information contact:
Matthew Aid (202) 994-7000

Washington, DC, November 14, 2008 - Forty-six years ago, a month before the Cuban Missile crisis, Soviet leaders put their strategic forces on their "highest readiness stage since the beginning of the Cold War," according to a newly declassified internal history of the National Security Agency published today for the first time by the National Security Archive. Possibly responding to President Kennedy's call for reserves, perhaps worried that the White House had discovered Moscow's plans to deploy missiles on Cuba, the Kremlin kept forces on alert for 10 days, beginning on September 11, 1962.

The NSA's signals intelligence (SIGINT) history also discloses that, a month later, on October 15th, the Soviets initiated a "precautionary, preliminary" alert, perhaps because Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev feared that U.S. intelligence had discovered the missiles. After President Kennedy's speech on October 22nd 1962, announcing the "quarantine" (blockade) of Cuba, the Kremlin put military forces, especially air defense forces, on an "extraordinarily high state of alert." Significantly, "offensive forces avoided assuming the highest readiness stage, as if to insure that Kennedy understood that the USSR would not launch first."

In response to a declassification request by the National Security Archive, the secretive National Security Agency has declassified large portions of a four-part "top-secret Umbra" study, American Cryptology during the Cold War. Despite major redactions, this history discloses much new information about the agency's history and the role of SIGINT and communications intelligence (COMINT) during the Cold War. Researched and written by NSA historian Thomas Johnson, the three parts released so far provide a frank assessment of the history of the Agency and its forerunners, warts-and-all.

According to National Security Archive visiting fellow Matthew Aid (author of the forthcoming history The Secret Sentry: The Top Secret History of the National Security Agency), Johnson's study shows "refreshing openness and honesty, acknowledging both the NSA's impressive successes and abject failures during the Cold War." Another striking feature of Johnson's study is the candor with which it discusses the fractious and damaging relationships between the agencies which make up the U.S. government's intelligence establishment.

Israel blocks foreign media from Gaza
The Associated Press
Wednesday, November 12, 2008

Israel has barred foreign journalists from entering the Gaza Strip for a week, in a move media have assailed as a serious violation of press freedom.

Israeli military spokesman Peter Lerner said the restrictions were imposed because Palestinian militants have resumed their rocket fire from Gaza, in violation of a 5-month-old truce. The only people allowed to enter and leave Gaza under the policy are international aid workers and Palestinian patients seeking medical treatment outside the territory, he said.

Because the Islamic militant Hamas group that rules Gaza "is not doing anything to stop the rockets firing into Israel, the decision is that only humanitarian movement is allowed," Lerner said.

Journalists dismissed that explanation as implausible and said current hostilities did not justify the ban on access.

"It is absolutely essential that international journalists be allowed to enter the territory and deliver their news reports to Israel and the rest of the world," said a statement from the Foreign Press Association, which represents international media covering Israel and the Palestinain territories.

"We note that humanitarian cases are still going in and out, proving safe passage is possible," added the statement, issued earlier this week. "The curtailing of journalists' right to enter Gaza is a serious violation of press freedom."

The Israeli military said some 75 rockets have been fired at southern Israel from Gaza since the barrages resumed last week, prompting Israel to attack militant targets, seal cargo crossings and restrict fuel shipments.

But in the past, journalists have been allowed in to the territory during times of far greater violence, including large-scale military campaigns.

"This is Israel's policy to not show what's going on in Gaza," said Conny Mus, a reporter for the Dutch television station RTL. Mus spoke from the Israeli side of the Erez crossing, and was among 14 journalists who had unsuccessfully sought entry to Gaza on Wednesday morning.

The media blackout, Mus added, was imposed under false pretenses because movement was not limited to humanitarian affairs.

"I talked to local people, local Palestinians who are going in and out for visits and meetings," Mus said. "This is the first time we basically face a situation like this. Officially they don't want to say that their policy is to keep journalists out, but that's basically what's happening here."

La escritura mirada. Una aproximación a la poesía experimental españolaAlfono López Gradolí 2008

Posted by Picasa

1 Fracisco Aliseda

Unlike my friend Jean-Nicholas Arthur Rimbaud I am not in Africa.

I avoid hospitals like the plague; superstitious & headstrong to the point of danger to oneself perhaps; yet having entered them clinically dead 5 five times, I have a terror of dying in one.  I remember begging as a teenager the doctors, the Priests, for some kind of necklace  similar to those that say "I am A Catholic, if I am on the verge of croaking my last,  call a Priest,"that would say, "If found dying, let this person die anywhere they are, at the side of the road, in peace, under the skies, but do not take them under any circumstances to the hospital."

Nonetheless I wound up at the clinic the other day and when I got back at night found a message from son who lives in Thailand that my email had been hacked as he had received letter saying I was in dire straits in Africa and asking for funds.
Since the email is from my son , it was the only one I read, as too ill to read any further.

Yesterday, I began to see with chagrin that this message was causing discussion and alarm, and my sympathies and thanks to those who felt concern, and apologies for being so, when the cause is a scam.  My apt mate received the message on his email and told me if he didn't know I was in my room next to his, he would have felt really bad, as the letter very much moved him.  I told him actually I receive quite alot of these, and especially heartrending are the ones in French, which sometimes wil have also a little foto gallery triptych of an attractive young and religious woman with  soft focus backgrounds.  The letters from le  monde Francophone also take for granted I have a wider acceptance (which in actuality I do)  of various forms of religion that in the Western Hemisphere developed into Haitian Voudon and aspects of the Hoodoo Man and Conjure Woman, John the Conqueroo et alia in the Southern US.

The great number of letters on a few lists very much struck me--and the fact that no one actually wrote me myself and I, other than my son, who wrote to alert me.

In the later afternoon my good friend Aryanil Mukherjee called and we spoke for along time. It was our first phone conversation, and very inspiring.

I wondered if there is a superstition in itself of writing to persons of whom one is not sure if this is that person or some one else?  I mean a superstition beyond wariness or fear of embarrassment at having made a mistake in identity, having been fooled?

A superstition almost as if the person is perhaps a form of "possessed being," like a zombie or some kinds of ghosts are?  Or in actuality, not a few living beings one encounters are--in airports and classrooms, delivery vans and parade grounds, among the police officers and and bathing suit beauties--among cardboard cut-outs and "conventional characters" littering obsessively the worlds of  newsreels and history, the cinema, the novel, the poem, ancient vases--statuary--

A superstition in fact almost as though the invoked name is that belonging to one of the dead--or, again the living-dead--some creature not unlike a politician or soap opera character and actress/actor who is "ever present"--"eternally a beacon to the adoring and faithfull believers"--just as they are there forever also for poets--

It also struck me very much as a new aspect of many of the themes, topics and subjects disccussed lately, among them "death" of the "author," appropriation, possession, hoaxes, heteranonymity, and something else which I've raised fairly often, the need to check sources, for so much of the so called "information" on the "Information Highway" is disinformation of all sorts, from financial to Propaganda schemes, government black flag ops to "merry pranks."  There are even those that purport to be having something to do with art (the one about the artist's starving a dog in a gallery,) or a poet mass mailing an anti-Muslim fake news article despite claiming afterwards to having doubts about its veracity, because he believed in the cause the "article's" intended and actual widespread negative effects were for (the Leevi Lehto case.)

There is a kind of cliche both in life/death and in the plot of novels, stories and films, of the artist or writer whose death is faked, in order to send the value of their work skyrocketing. This little scam is based on the very real observation of how often it occurs that some nearly forgotten figure has been is suddenly resurrected by death and not only restored to a former glory, but suddenly begins to attain a reknown no one had ever dreamed them or their work capable of. The "disappearance" of some "enigmatic" artist or writer who had created a slim oeuvre when known to be alive and yet, after "death," is found to have produced quite a bounty of works which lead one ever further into what is now considered one of the most daring and audacious and fertile grounds for the future--this disappearance will vault the artist's works and name into the stratospheres of value, while behind the scenes, somewhere, from time to time he or she produces casually a work or three to add to the heap of previously undiscovered fragments, notes, doodles, memorandum, sketches, small studies, etc.

This case of the David Chirot email provides yet another version, in which the person them self is suddenly finding them self discussed at a distance, as though they are not present at all, via emails discussing an email which has, many agree, not been sent by David Chirot.  Or has it been?  As a Prank?  Or in reality?

On the part of many, there is a concern for the person, and on the part of others, the developing concern that various ideas that are held about the emails not being sent by Chirot are correct.

Of course, there is no rise at all in any value in the worthless works of David Chirot, whether or not he is in Africa, whether or not he sent the email and whether or not he is paying attention or not to what is being written about him as though he is, if not in Africa, at least elsewhere as yet among the living.

Since the identity of David Chirot was stolen and used by some one else unknown, the resultant responses to the email itself are what might be thought of as the "after effects" of the "name" David Chirot" as known on email and as a person in a few instances.  These "after effects" bear an odd relation both to the "ghostwritten" and the "posthumous" and in this case become related to something I have called before the ghosthumous.  Curiously, when being considered as being or not being in Africa, the David Chirot name usually present has been supplanted by an unknown bearing that name, and thus given a strange sensation of the "other" David Chirot "not being here"--whether or not they are actually in Africa.

Hence the email takes on this ghostwritten character, or ghosthumous, ghost written from the beyond the grave character, glowing radioactively with the fall out of "after effects" in the thickets and clearings of asemics, signs, letters, words and phrases.

Along the way, the accumulation of commentaries and details regrading various aspects of the "other David Chirot" (the non-email message one)--begins to construct its own small form of "biography/portrait" "wanted poster" "Have You Seen Him?" poster and so forth--and begins to develop into a discussion of the language applied to the emails--and so soon enough, one realizes, the disappearance of the David Chirots will no longer be missed at all.

In fact, the disappearance of the disappearance of the David Chirot. is already one assumes taking effect, and the only means by which one may make certain that one is not forgotten is to write a letter in which one hopes others will indeed find it in their hearts to believe the veracity of.

But then--once, burned, twice shy!!

How does anyone from now on know who it is really writing under the name "David Chirot"--

Perhaps "David Chirot" has become something more like a Tag--to be sprayed on a wall--used in a mural--sent into the atmospheres--as the disintegration of particles--

However, if David Chirot's identity has been stolen and paraded about and discussed, and exploited in potentia, might not David Chirot return to re appropriate that name, that identity--and to re take POSSESSION not simply of identity and "copyright" and such tedious things, but also of the spirit of David Chirot--the appropriation that the first David Chirot wrote of that tends to be regarded by most as "primitive," yet that that David Chirot takes as true, actual.

To appropriate this identity theft, one then appropriates al the responses it has generated, as the "after effects " writings of this "after effect" of the name and persona of "David Chirot" as someone existing on email lists.

In other words, what one now has before one is the creation out of the blue of an anthology.

In a note found just as I began to write this, Catherine Daley is responding to the "Illuminations" and "Illuminated manuscripts" and mystic illuminations I had brought up in relation with writing--her question in part being, may these be disciplined, as one does with writing?

It is not perhaps that one disciplines these or the ability to create their circumstances for occurring, as the other way round, which is to keep on making oneself more available to the awareness of how many of these are continually occurring all around one all the time. At the great risk of boring everyone yet again--"hidden in plain site/sight/cite."

"I do not seek, I find."

These "after effects" of  an email by a "David Chirot" who has hacked into David Chirot's address book in order to use David Chirot's name--are among the after effects of a person and writer already writing "After Rimbaud's Illuminations" and other works concerning  "After " effects--"After Lorca-After Spicer-After Yasusada-"etc etc--

So the proliferation of the after effects of "After Rimbaud's Illuminations" becomes a David Chirot in Africa, like Rimbaud, and also a David Chirot who is not David Chirot, like that "I is an other/I is somebody else" that many see in the Rimbaud in Africa as compared to the Rimbaud who had been a poet in Europe.

David Chirot, the Milwaukee one, by appropriating and taking possession of this legacy of "After effects" of "some other David Chirot" who had stolen David Chirot's name and created the effects which that name generated--then produces an anthology of the responses which is basically "assembled"  not by "an "editor/author at all but simply "the name function" David Chirot as it were, both an anonymous/pseudonymous person and another person who really does bear legally that name.

All the works in the anthology are the emails of others responding to the original email of David Chirot in Africa.
With perhaps a letter at the end from the "other" David Chirot in Milwaukee.

Wystan Curnow had said that nowhere in al I had written did i mention or write about the conventional.  On the contrary, in al I had written last week and before in these discussions re appropriation, has been the presence of the conventional as that absence at the heart of al the methods and examples I gave of the means to elude the conventional, not to ossify into it it, to skip over it, go around, under it, explode it, fly over, parody it, make a slightly off copy of it that is its satiric downfall and so on and on--
to be like those"words who intentions are fugitive" and of which it is almost impossible to construct a glossary of that Burroughs writes of in the introduction to Junkie.

And what then is the conventional--the conventional is al that massive accumulation  of details, images, words, sayings, ideas, propagandas, concepts, unquestioned beliefs, with which one is taught to continually not be aware of what is hidden in plain site/sight/cite. Not to think for oneself but be given the illusion that one is.

"To be cast o'er
with the sickly pale of convention"

so to speak--

The examination of many contemporary examples of "resistant," "radical, innovative" work provides  a genealogy and typology of a series of appropriations of ever more entropical conventions of the "radical" and "avant garde" of a century ago. Many previously controversial  aspects are trimmed away, to attempt to make the new "product" appear "leaner and meaner" or "leaner and cleaner."  "Lite" versions appear, more "user friendly" ones--

Precisely what "empowers" the "innovative, radical" aspects and energies is that they are conventional and so are easy to recognize and identify with as  "authoritative" expressions of radical, innovative anti-authoritarianism via their self created revision of the "traditions of the avant-garde."

These themselves reverse engineer their anti-authoritarianism into authoriaianism and capitalize in the process on the re-assertion of their authoritative anti-authoritative stance.

(note below are links to some examples of this--)

(i wrote something else a few days ago re the conventional to send when I get better--will send on later on--.)

(but then what is more conventional perhaps to say--than "you have not spoken of the conventional so everywhere present-"--

that is because, the conventional is so everywhere at all times al encompassing ever present that --is it not continually speaking for itself--t the poi8nt of suffocation of al else--
what Dubuffet called "Asphyxiating Culture"--

and so does not need me at all to speak of it --

other than to suggest ways to get around, through outside underneath fly over--tear it to shreds--etc--)

There was a great deal of discussion recently regarding an anthology of poetry produced by a program designed by specific individuals for use with a computer  The names of many poets living and dead were assigned to the poems, in order, one thinks perhaps, to gain it more attention--create bit more long winded "controversy."

A number of persons were appalled that one might associate such a method with the possibilities also of producing fake evidences using computers and then assigning them to names and thus producing "suspects" to be rounded up and "detained" and tortured. In other rods, an anthology could be constructed also a form of camouflage for such a mission, or simply as a poetry anthology as this "One" was, via computer written poems being assigned to actual living and dead poet's names.

Here we have a case indeed of an unknown someone stealing the email identity and name of a person most likely unknown to them  for monetary gain under other circumstances than that of the actual person bearing the legal name. Yet by producing responses to this "work" which bears the "name" of the "David Chirot in Milwaukee" this "non-author" is "resulting in" "after effects" of the uses of the name of David Chirot when it is thought to be that of a specific David Chirot
who is indeed a person interested in appropriation and writing and so in turn, not to be taken possession of, makes the move known in cards as "trumping the trumper" "and takes the hand."  ("Tromper le trompeur: c'est double plaisir")
(Hand being the meaning of "chiro")

Unless, of course, the hacker turns out to be someone who is playing a prank using the name of David Chirot on everyone who thinks that this is the name that they know as David Chirot and in turn on the  David Chirot who also thinks that it is this particular David Chirot that is meant.

Or indeed is a poetic Prankster who is trying out a poetic experiment

In the sense of possession, one must sometimes, perforce, be a Repo man, yes-!
The Repo Man of one's identity and spirit!

President-Elect Obama Leave No Soldier Behind

Dear David,

Every year on this day Peace Action has traditionally sent you an Armistice Day message.  We do so to honor the spirit of this day when we celebrate the end of World War 1 on the 11th day of the 11th month at the 11th hour.  Today though, we cannot reflect on our past without being reminded of our present.

To date 4,171 American troops have been killed in Iraq.  Those who did survive to come home and speak out against the war have been met with police violence in the streets of New York and St. Paul (video).

Today, we ask you to remember Armistice Day and our Veterans by taking action to bring U.S. troops home from the failed war on terrorism and support them when they are here.

No Soldier Left Behind is a comprehensive plan to bring our troops home from Iraq once and for all; safely, speedily, and with the interest of sustainable peace in mind.  SIGN IT HERE.

No Soldier Left Behind is an open letter to President elect Obama from the American people calling on him
to pursue a strategy that includes:

- Withdrawing all troops and private contractors within one year without leaving a vulnerable and provocative residual force

Creating a "diplomatic surge" that engages Iraq's neighbors (including Iran and Syria) and the international community

- Leading donor efforts for Iraqi-controlled reconstruction and humanitarian aid, and securing assistance to Iraq's almost 5 million displaced people, as well as for Iraqis endangered due to their assistance of the US effort

- Assisting in the establishment of international peacekeeping and stabilization forces if requested by the Iraqi people

President elect Obama has become a spokesperson for change in this country.  Tell him to fully embrace that role by throwing out Bush's failed 'war on terror'.  We cannot win peace with bombs.  The only solution is to pursue real security through diplomatic cooperation and funding human needs here and abroad.  Please sign today.
