Free Leonard Peltier
The government under pretext of security and progress, liberated us from our land, resources, culture, dignity and future. They violated every treaty they ever made with us. I use the word “liberated” loosely and sarcastically, in the same vein that I view the use of the words “collateral damage” when they kill innocent men, women and children. They describe people defending their homelands as terrorists, savages and hostiles . . . My words reach out to the non-Indian: Look now before it is too late—see what is being done to others in your name and see what destruction you sanction when you say nothing. --Leonard Peltier, Annual Message January 2004 (Leonard Peltier is now serving 31st year as an internationally recognized Political Prisoner of the United States Government)

Miss Universe Visits Guantanamo: 'A Loooot Of Fun!'

Miss Universe Visits Guantanamo: 'A Loooot Of Fun!'

The current 'Miss Universe' Dayana Mendoza (formerly Miss Venezuela) and 'Miss America' Crystal Stewart visited US troops stationed in Guantanamo Bay on March 20th, the New York Times reports. Here's Mendoza's account of the visit from her pageant blog last Friday. She says the trip "was a loooot of fun!"

This week, Guantánamo!!! It was an incredible experience...All the guys from the Army were amazing with us. We visited the Detainees camps and we saw the jails, where they shower, how the recreate themselves with movies, classes of art, books. It was very interesting. We took a ride with the Marines around the land to see the division of Gitmo and Cuba while they were informed us with a little bit of history.

The water in Guantánamo Bay is soooo beautiful! It was unbelievable, we were able to enjoy it for at least an hour. We went to the glass beach, and realized the name of it comes from the little pieces of broken glass from hundred of years ago. It is pretty to see all the colors shining with the sun. That day we met a beautiful lady named Rebeca who does wonders with the glasses from the beach. She creates jewelry with it and of course I bought a necklace from her that will remind me of Guantánamo Bay :)

I didn't want to leave, it was such a relaxing place, so calm and beautiful.

Leisure Books & Leisure Poems---the Non "Summer Reading List" Non "Difficult Poetry and Prose" " Found in Refuse/Refuse

You know how it gets in summer time--all those Very Important Persons' recommended and basically implicitly Commanded books you're going to read--all those important novels of the times and for all time written by hot young authors and reinvigorated veterans--all the non-fiction solutions to the soul's cash flow and the eco-politics of growing vegetables rather than wasteful dangerous cash crops like Weed--or the makings of some good White Lightning--

all those Difficult Poems lined up in pristine rows or left prominently out among the fresh fruit and Feng Sui arrangements of delicate Rolling Paper Hand Inked Calligraphic Scroll Poetry------to impress all the poets who drop by to borrow the shiny new books--
and "accidentally" start to roll up with the Scrolls--so as to palm them in the confusion and take them home to sell on ebay--

or, with the shiny tomes fresh from the actually rolling presses--
to sell them back to one at their soon-to-happen "Moving Sales"--

yes--you know what it's like--a big guilt ridden drag!!

I mean--who wants to read what are really OTHER PEOPLE's reading lists--!!

besides, do they even read them? these Mighty Ones, these Holders and Upholders of Weighty Opinions and Profound Thoughts--these Atlases and Amazons holding aloft the Shining Light of Literature in its Most Pure Form--(certainly their Pure Form must not be confused with anything like another Holder Aloft of Shining Light, the shabby and substantial wreck known as Lady Liberty, who still is wantonly embracing all those dirty and homeless poor who are most likely Illegal Aliens!!-oh no!!-)-

-do these Great Ones simply follow their own versions of the Bluffer's Guides?--or the methods used by that French Professor for "creating new works" out of the ones one has not read but pretends to have?

how many literary discussions are not actually about fictions of poems and prose that no one present has actually read except in bits and pieces of references and footnotes or a watered down version an old friend had on a long abandoned video--or if one is really retro--one might just have the Eight Track version of the Soundtrack of it--so as to provide oneself with "a material basis for the construction of a dialectal method of inquiry . . . "

I.E.--yet another "conversation generating curio" as well as yet another means to evade the reading of the long dreaded and now very heatedly hated never-to--read text--

how often are not philosophical and ideological bric-a-brac used to adorn texts but a way to camouflage the fact that one has not read them, nor ever intends to!!

So --one pours forth mighty earth--shaking opinions and downright brutal bashings of these works--because after all--if one has not read them--does that not mean and prove that they in fact are not worth reading?--

Perhaps to argue vociferously for a "Difficult Poetry" is actually a method to scare away the all the unworthy riff raff who otherwise might stray into one's special private gardens, reserved only for the poems and poets approved of by one's friends--

So it is that all "these difficulty fraught conversations, poems, reviews, talks, essays and manifestos--have at their heart a truly dire and simple secret--

that the ever more elaborate and elaborated deployment of detours, digressions and diplomas --is in order to cover up the fact that in their midst lurks an immense black hole--a most terrifying and miraculously wondrous vacuum in which exists the unread text--

and to protect this hidden
"Difficulty" at the core of things--at the heart of the things one has created to hide this "Difficulty"--

one espouses with great zeal a Difficult Poetry & Prose which acts as the camouflaging uniform worn to conceal that hidden, naked text--unread---though "well known"---consuming one from within by one's refusal and/or inability to consume it--

So, yes indeed, a "Difficult Poetry and Prose" is indeed a Discourse of Difficulty to evade acknowledging a Difficulty which one must work ever more diligently and vigilantly to hide, as it becomes ever more difficult to continue to do so--

the paradox being that an incredible and formidable "body of knowledge and thought" is materialized in the discourse of concealment deployed in the dissemination of dis-informations--
conceptions which are Conceptualized in order to conceal a deception--a "Deceptual" Poetry and Prose--advocating an Opacity rather than Transparency of the Decoy Difficult Poetry so as, like secretive governments and societies, to conceal from any possibility of prying eyes--the Taboo--

The Taboo of the admission of a non Reading of a Writing --which, if it remains unread long enough--perhaps will dematerialize--vanish thoroughly from the records as it were--
and become a Lost or Forgotten Text--which , unfortunately however, may be also a Ghost--a Wandering Restless Spirit that will not rest until being found by and finding its readers--

until that horrifying and apocalyptic day when some one finds its still smoldering and partially legible ashy scraps at the city dump--

ah!! but one must truly have Leisure Time on one's hands, no?--to indulge in such Leisurely Day Dreams and Reveries--!

But then--is not one with Reveries "dreaming up" Leisure Poetry and Prose-

doesn't this mean that even in Reverie--one is not idle, and so not having idle hands to use for the Devil's works--?

Dreaming up in Reverie the Leisure Poetries and Prose--
finding in these "day dreams" things which are hidden in plain sight--
like Poe's detective Dupin--who would sit in silence and darkness in order "see" his way to the heart of the mystery--
and Find!--the Purloined Letter Hidden in Plain Site/Sight/Cite--!

To dream when wide awake--to see in the darkness--

is to Find --

Enough day dreaming--after al perhaps it is only what the Rational call--"wool gathering"--!

And but another way to hide from oneself the dread secrets--the Difficulties----of the non-readings of unread texts--

Yet--it is day dreaming which takes one past the guardians of the rational is it not, with their Difficulties . . .

"Revolutions are born in the mind of a peasant dreaming on a hillside--" says Mr James Joyce--

not being a peasant himself--did he perhaps "idealize," that is to say--"dream up"-- the peasant?--and so fall prey to a day-dreaming himself--

so--back to the tasks at hand--
the revolutions of the every Day Any Time Any where . . .

Difficult Poetry!!--a walk in the park when you're trying to decipher directions to the Basement Show "somewhere North of North Ave"!!!--

or the rummage sale "by the Church that it is so sad the bells are no longer ringing from"--"you know--over by where John used to live before his second rehab--remember?--when he'd just gotten out of prison and needed to live by a Church to save his soul?--you know where I mean, right--?--oh--what am I saying?--you didn't even live here then!"

Yes--this is the time when we at Leisure Books know you really are crying out in the wilderness for something that's as uplifting as lifting up a Tall Cool Frosty and as satisfying as a real gone lover--

So here they are--read them at your leisure-- or go to one of the traveling Leisure Book readings as shown here--

and be sure to keep your eyes open for the stray odd volumes always turning up like bad pennies, old videos and unwanted ex-friends and lovers and family at your local really swingin independent book stores--

Aha! Check it out--what these two cats had--two damn fine Leisure Poems!!--

and on top of that--a Leisure Book!--one of the Vintage Ones--damn straight it's a Classic!--

don't forget--spread that Leisure Reading around--and--keep your eyes and ears Leisurely aware of all the Leisure Literature just Lying Around!!--

and on some days when it's to damn much trouble to even read or look at another picture--why not Leisurely compose your own Leisure Poems and Prose at your own Leisure--with the Leisurely Found materials all around one--just lying about--drying off in the hot dusty alley sun after a nice good bathing in the rains and humid airs--

Leisure Books--the Eco-Writing and Reading of the Now and the Future of the Wonderful Tomorrows!

Made from fresh homegrown recycled refuse--Nature's Natural Resources--

turning junk into gems--

and back into junk again--

to Leisurely Recycle in the Wheels of Rebirth, the Karmic Compositions of a Cosmic Conundrum--

the Leisurely wanderings of Being among the Wastelands on their way to Being Again Gardens of Eden Found Among the Leavings--

for is it not so that to be left behind is to be right ahead?

and that one person's refuse is another's means to refuse the Conceptual Poetry of Built-in Obsolescence and Waste?--

and is it not true that "Difficult Poetry" is only so to those who are trying to be "difficult"--

when in fact, as Leisure Works show--

all you go to do is Take it Easy, But Take It--

or, in the words of the Young Star in today's exciting tome discovered at the yard sale of the Cool Cats--

"it's EASIER than you think"--

because after all--there are "Clues by the thousands, but no solution"--

and isn't it the Clues Without Solution that Promise lifetimes of Leisurely Writing and Reading on a Planet that is both Plotted--and Plotless?--

A Conspiracy Theory Poetry in which the Conspiracies exist but have no Conspirators that have as yet been indicted--because after all, this is the world of the Leisurely!!

so Take it Easy but Take it--
in the immortal words of Woody Guthrie, who had on his guitar a handmade sign that said and read--

"This machine kills Fascists"--

so this Leisure Writing is it not like a Woody Guthrie Guitar?-

at once deceptively Leisurely and Deadly Dangerous?--

a Chord Progression on the Way to--
